Dan Jorgensen, Author and Rotarian, from Milliken, held our attention as he told how he came to be a Rotarian. He talked about his books and it was especially interesting that his very first book, Killer Blizzard, was the product of an English workshop assignment during his days at CSU. Killer Blizzard has sold over 200,000 copies.
Dan grew up on a South Dakota farm, attended a one-room country school, earned degrees from South Dakota State University and started writing for newspapers during his sophomore year in college. Since then he’s written hundreds of news, sports and feature stories and 10 books. His most recent books are the historical mystery-thrillers Rainbow Rock and Devil’s Thumb, which has been named for the Readers’ Favorite best original novel and nominated for the Spur Award, given by the Western Writers of America for Best Historical Novel set in the American West.
Many of his book ideas, set in the Black Hills and western South Dakota, grew out of stories he wrote while working as a reporter and feature writer for Black Hills-area newspapers.
Dan is a longtime Rotarian (since 1987) and a Paul Harris Fellow.
