Rotary International's 119 Anniversary - Friday, February 23rd
Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.
Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world.

Our ongoing commitment
That commitment endures today through an organization that remains truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Our members now span the globe with over 1.4M members, working to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems.
We’re not afraid to dream big and set bold goals. We began our fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio remains endemic in only two countries — down from 125 in 1988.

Good News:
Jean is back after hip surgery and getting around with a cane.
Steve Misch is on evening oxygen only. Also, he and Joelma are moving to a home on Hwy 7 for something on one level. His home on Pole Hill got a full price offer after only a few days on the market.
David White’s wife may come home from rehab this week. Fingers crossed!
Samantha Workman has an audition with the Candlelight theater in Johnstown.

Robert Foster’s wife, Catherine, had shoulder surgery on Tuesday, Feb 20th.
Matching grant applications are available through March 31! Recognizing that Sunrise Rotarians support various local nonprofits, the Matching Grants Program doubles a member’s donation up to $200. If a club member gives $200, EVSR will match that $200 and the nonprofit will receive $400. Eligible local nonprofits must be registered with the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center (EPNRC). Certain international nonprofits will be allowed: Rotary Charities, YMCA, and Salvation Army.

EPH Strategic Goal -Provide access to excellent health care for our community for years to come
Brief Recent History – 2020 to now
March 2020- Covid 19 made them shut down for several months.
EPH’s financial goal of at least break even to a 3% positive margin from Operations.
Strategic actions to increase revenues - Lost $500K in 2023 but expect to make money in 2024 and 2025.

It’s no secret that the EPH is looking for affiliation partner(s) and in order to be an attractive affiliation with a larger organization, they need to at least break even. Making progress towards that this year.
Non-Medical Home Care, Hospice Care, Home Health Care
Phase 1 and 2 Strategic Actions: Identify and implement financially feasible alternative options for access to Non- Medical Home Care, Hospice Care, Home Health Care.
At least 23 local non-medical home care providers in the Estes Valley, 4 licensed providers of Hospice care…..
EPH currently negotiating with an organization to provide access to Home Health Care and Hospice in our community.
Non-Medical Home Care – activities of daily living so they can stay in their home (insurance generally doesn’t pay for that). It’s a cash business. Usually provided by family, friends, or volunteers. This is the biggest challenge.
Hospice – focuses on the quality of life for people and their caregivers who are experiencing an advanced, life limiting …..
How long does Government Covid relief continue for EPH? 2024 is the last year.
Medical Directives – if here from another state, do you need to update to a Colorado directive? No, it applies across all States.
What is the difference between a DNR and the “Most”? The “Most” is a form that Medicare requires. Everyone should have one right now. Talk to your PCP. It was urged that you should be very thoughtful when doing a DNR. In the end, this will be so helpful to your family member. A DNR can be part of the “Most” form. The “Most” form should be signed by you and your PCP. Everyone should put a DNR form on your refrigerator as that’s the first place EMT’s look.
Dementia care – for help call EPH and one of the 3 social workers will reach out. It is a complicated process and they can help advise on next steps.

End-of-Life hospice is a billable service at EPH.
Long term medical insurance – it used to cover quite a bit but today, it covers only half. Question is whether it’s worth purchasing. If you bought it a long time ago, it’s better than nothing. To buy it today, it’s expensive. Crossroads received a grant from Larimer County last year and they plan to integrate more with EPH. Crossroads will help with a group of volunteers to give folks a ride somewhere, delivery of meds, etc.
Encourage everyone to download the “5 Wishes” document that will walk you through all of this. Someone suggested that EPH do an article in the paper to inform the community about what they presented today.
Vern clarified that Dr Deck (sp?) is still practicing and doing surgeries at the hospital.
Are you still using traveling nurses? In 2026, Colorado is destined to be 10,000 short on nurses. EPH is at 15% traveling nurses. They are hiring new nurses.
Do you have housing issues for traveling nurses? No, we have call rooms and some condos that we can use. There are a couple of people who have rentals in their homes for nurses.
