• We awarded Lucy with her very first Paul Harris Fellow Award.  Our Club, along with a very special Sunrise Rotarian, made contributions to The Rotary Foundation to enable this first time award.  In the future, we hope that this award will encourage Lucy will continue to donate to The Rotary Foundation and help advance world understanding, goodwill and peace with Rotary. 

• We awarded Ren Gobris, with the Estes Valley Community Garden a $2,000 community grant.  The funds will go towards building community garden boxes for Seniors living at Falcon Ridge.  So far they have built 8 boxes with 40 volunteers and will continue to build more with the help of our Middle School Interact Kids on May 23rd starting at 1pm.  Sunrise Volunteers can help, too.  

• District Conference in Steamboat Springs was GREAT!!  Thanks to all of you, our "Estes Park Getaway" basket for the Silent Auction sold for $525.00.  We collected LOTS of mobility devices (crutches, canes, wheel chairs, etc) from that will go towards our District Community Service project with "CRUTCHES 4 AFRICA".  In total, we raised over $9,000 in auction items at the Conference. • Jim and Joanie Jonell are hosting a reception for Lucia (Lucy) Miano after her graduation on Friday.  Graduation starts at 11am so the reception will be afterwards. If you would like to attend for a short bit, the address is 1068 Fall River Court and it is from 2-4 pm (come and go open house style).
  Since it is tradition for the exchange students to collect lapel pins from their year of exchange, Stacey is asking if you all have any extras that you don’t wear or use any longer, to please bring them to the reception….or drop them by the funeral home this week….

• Erica Davis at the Estes Park Career and Technical Education (CTE) building had an open house at CTE yesterday to see the work that the students have done.  Most of you are aware that we helped to support the CTE programs and that Jackie Flood donated most of Jerry's woodworking equipment to the school.  

• Our district governor, Steve Sehnert, sent out an email with an Alert – there have been phishing attempts sent today from a fake District Governor gmail account and also from a false gmail account in the name of our District Treasurer. The subject line is either “Greetings (first name of email recipient)" or "Quick Request".  If you respond the phishing attempt asks you to purchase Gift Cards. 
   
  Please do not respond to these emails, block the email address they were sent from, and delete the email.  If you can, please inform Google as this would also help.
   
  This is also a reminder that these spoofing, phishing, and spam emails are out there constantly and you should always look at these requests carefully before responding.  Requesting Gift Cards is a huge red flag.  Recipients of these emails are not all from attendees at the District Conference so there is another source that has been compromised.

• The Senior Center is offering a First Aid course on Fri., June 7 from 1 to 3 p.m., and a CPR/AED class will be offered on Sat., June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon. And, if they have enough members register for the CPR/AED class, it will also be offered that Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m.  The classes will be taught by Debbie Holmes, an American Heart Association certified instructor. Must register by June 1^st. The cost of these classes for members will be $40 for one class or $60 for both.

• There is still time to donate! Operation Gratitude is collecting items in support of Military Appreciation Month. The organization's mission is to express gratitude and thank our Military and First Responder communities for their service by creating opportunities for all Americans to show appreciation. The care packages that are prepared and sent out contain items meant to boost the morale and resilience of our service members and give them warm reminders of home. Please bring any of the following items to our Sunrise Rotary May meetings:

• Lucy Miano received her first Paul Harris award. 
• Dr. John Knudtsen from the Estes Park Hospital presented on the Radiology Unit at the hospital. 
• Kay and Sadie Morgan spoke about what being in Interact did for them and how it helped them with leadership and volunteering.  Some information on the Sadie, Kay and Molly: 

          - Sadie is in EMT School and volunteers for the Estes Valley Fire fighters. 

          - Kay is finishing her degree in Wildlife Biology and is a volunteer with the                  fire department as well. 

           - Molly is their middle sister and very outgoing.  She just finished her                         Nursing degree at UNC and is engaged to be married.  She went to RYLA                 and was a counselor at RYLA.
