The Service Project for the May 16-19 District Conference is to support the efforts of CRUTCHES 4 AFRICA.
We are starting now to collect Mobility devices including: * crutches, ankle boots, walkers, wheelchairs, canes, leg braces, knee braces, prosthetic legs, air casts, baby jogging strollers, bicycle trailers, rollators, ski poles, etc.
Please bring them to our next Rotary meetings through May 14tth and we will get them to the District Conference in Steamboat Springs.
When Rotary helped launch the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, the disease paralyzed more than 1,000 people worldwide every day, most of them young children.
Since then, Rotary and its partners have reduced the number of polio cases by 99%, and in 2021 there were just six cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus. Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries where the wild poliovirus remains endemic.

Joint social with Noon Rotary on Thursday, May 30th at High Peak Camp. The Salvation Army has this camp for a retreat of inner city kids to have an experience at a camp. They have a large eating area and the food is served cafeteria style. There will be a tour includes seeing the dorms, etc. Stay tuned for more info to come.

Kendra Wallis announced that we have 17 Non-Profits who will benefit from our Matching Grants program. We will award these Non-Profits at our June 18th Sunrise Rotary meeting.
The Ducks are off and paddling in just 19 days. Now is the time to get your race tickets. So far, there have been 14 Sunrise Rotary members who are in line for the big prizes. Estes Park Community Home Healthcare Survey
As a follow up to discussions last month with EP Health, there is an Estes Park Community Home Healthcare Survey, if you wish to take it.
Two committees came out of these conversations, one to do a survey to see what the needs are and where the gaps would be, and the other committee wanted to see if some type of non-medical volunteer program could be started to help fill some of the gaps after the hospital's hospice program would stop.
Crossroads has taken up the banner to start a pilot neighbor-to-neighbor non-medical volunteer program. It will be called Helping Hub, and more information will be forthcoming later this month. It will provide some support to people dealing with long-term or end-stage illnesses, such as respite for the caregiver, visitation to the person who is home-bound and facing a long recovery or a terminal illness. We have been trying to work out some of the parameters of what the Helping Hub will look like.
The Community Home Healthcare Survey seeks information from the community on what its needs are. We opened the survey up a week ago, on Thursday, and in 10 days we have 200 responses, which is remarkable considering the survey asks some pretty deep demographic questions. The Estes Chamber, the Nonprofit Network, the League of Women Voters, Crossroads, and the Senior Center have shared the link to the survey on their Facebook pages or on their weekly newsletters.
The survey will be open until midnight on Friday, April 26, and then a group of people from these organizations will be meeting on April 30 around the conference table at Crossroads to discuss the survey results and to outline a report to the community.
“Women in the Rockies” conference is July 26-28 in Westcliff, Colorado. 6 or 7 members from our Sunrise Rotary Club have expressed interest in attending. but please confirm with Jean if you are interested in attending so we can get a headcount.
