1) Topic: MacGregor Ranch Riverscape Project, presented by Todd Jirsa, Morgan Morris, Ranch Business Office Manager and 4 other members from the Larimer Conservation District, Partner for MacGregor Ranch.
There are over 3000 Conservation Districts across the US to address local resource concerns who work primarily with private landowners; Holistic Watershed Management with encompasses forest restoration, riverscape restoration and agricultural solutions. They spoke about the current as well as the upcoming service projects this summer on the Black Canyon creek. Projects are to mitigate future flood issues and slow down the speed of the River.
2) Topic: Community Garden Service project with Rotary Interact Club, presented by Dave Boon, Ft Collins "After Work" Rotary Club and Ren Gobris, EVCG President Board of Directors
Project is to build Garden Spaces at EP Housing Authority Site – Dave’s Rotary Club in Ft Collins did this project with the Ft Collins HS with the Housing Authority last year. Dave has contacted EP Schools Superintendent Ruby Bode, EP Horticulture Club, Youth in Action at the High School, the Middle School Interact Club and the EP Housing Authority. Dave has orchestrated this project in Estes Park to build eight 4’x10’ raised beds for Falcon Ridge as a Pilot project. EP HS will pre-build the boxes. They also need some Elk/Deer proof fencing.
3) Topic: RYLA and YRYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), presented by Dave Boon, Ft Collins "After Work" Club
Dave let us know that Sunrise Rotary has 2 applications open for YRYLA and 1 application open for RYLA.
Rotary clubs in districts 5440 and 5450, throughout Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Eastern Idaho and Western Nebraska sponsor students to participate in these 5-day leadership conferences known as Rocky Mountain RYLA.
The RYLA Conference for 240 participants is held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. This conference is also referred to as Senior RYLA.
Any high school sophomore or junior may apply to attend RYLA. Generally, applicants selected have excelled in one or more areas of high school involvement and have potential or proven leadership experience.
