World Polio Day is October 24th
Rotary International will celebrate the progress we have made in the fight against polio and remind the world that polio anywhere is a threat to children everywhere.
We need your support so that together, we will EndPolio.org for good. Please consider contributing what you can to support polio eradication.
9 of us from both Rotary Clubs attended the District Fall Assembly in Cheyenne last Saturday. We had 4 breakout sessions in the morning, a keynote speaker on Mental Health First Aid during lunch and 4 more breakout sessions in the afternoon. Also had a video on World Polio Day.
Other announcements:
We were approved for the District Governor’s grant! $1000 to go towards the $1500 EPHS Paint project (Lockers, parking spaces, school windows). It’s a 2:1 match…our club contributed $500. Thanks to Bill Howell for gathering info (photos, project status documentation and budget) from the EPHS Sponsor, Kristin Hill. Thanks to Teresa Mueller for her guidance on club matching rules.
Eric Blackhurst announced "An Evening of Broadway Tunes" on October 21st at 7pm in the Estes Park High School Auditorium featuring Lindsey Blackhurst and Esha Datta with a special appearance by Samantha Workman. Since this is the same evening as our Snowy Peaks wine and cheese social, perhaps you can attend both starting with our social at 5:30pm and the concert at 7pm.
Scott Applegate announced that our Sunrise honorary member, Tim Hull, had an exceptional round of golf this week and placed 1st out of 59 in the league. Be sure to congratulate Tim if you see him.
A temporary farewell to Bruce and Sally Johnston who leave Thursday for Arizona. Bruce said they will return to Estes Park in April.
Stacey announced that the first Interact kickoff meeting with the Middle School is this Thursday, Oct 12th. The committee decided to start with just the 8th grade and get that going. Maybe in the new year they will add High School kids. Since they meet at lunch, Middle School and High School lunch hours are completely different. Thanks to Stacey and Niki from our Club for kicking this off as well as to Anne Slack and Jim Jonell from Noon Rotary.
RSVP's are required for attendance at National Philanthropy Day @ YMCA on Nov 9th. It's a free dinner awards event but you need to RSVP. Several of us have been nominated for the Katie Speer Award. Our Club is also being nominated for the Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year Award. See below for list of awards.

Katie Speer Philanthropist of the Year
This award is intended to recognize an individual or group who has made a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities. Business Philanthropist of the Year
The Business Philanthropist of the Year award is intended to recognize a business that has had a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities.
Enduring Service Award
The Enduring Service award is intended to recognize an individual or group who has made an extraordinary long-term impact on the Estes Valley community through philanthropic activities. Employees of institutions that do philanthropic work are not eligible for this award for work performed in the course of their regular job duties.
Youth Philanthropist of the Year
The Youth Philanthropist of the Year award is intended to recognize an individual or group (18 years old or younger) who has made a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities.
Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year
The Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year award is intended to recognize a nonprofit organization that is in service to the Estes Valley that has demonstrated exceptional dedication to its mission and those whom they serve.
Ray and Cindy Leaycraft will be our speakers. Topic is on Paul Harris and Rotary Annual Fund. Come learn how these impact our Club for both district and global grant monies.
