The Estes Park Armature Radio Club received $500 from Sunrise Rotary for it's "Putting Students on the Air" program which is designed to teach and encourage Middle School students in the field of Ham Radio. The program pays for learning material, testing, licensing and if successful a Handheld Radio. Instructors Bob Ernst and Ravi Dais are the Middle School instructors involved in this program. They and 2 of the current students spoke to us about the program.
Blue Santa Donation
Auxiliary Police officer, David White, accepted a $1000 donation from Sunrise Rotary for their Blue Santa program.

The international water project committee will kick off with their first meeting on the Ecuadorian Rainforest clean water project this Friday at the home of John and Cindy Minier. The team is comprised of the following members: John Minier, Jean Rissmiller, Rick Beesley, Bill Howell, Mark Holdt, Kendra Wallis, Berta Raworth, Janet Zeschin and Stacey Winsor. If anyone else is interested in being on this committee, please let Jean Rissmiller or John Minier know.
Scott Applegate reported that the elementary school Scholastic book fair, 521 books were given to 204 Elementary students, thanks to our Plant a Book, Grow and Child program.
In honor of Veterans Day, the Legion is hosting a breakfast this Saturday, free for Veterans, followed by a presentation. The Legion welcomes donations for this event.
The Estes Park HS Marching Band placed 3rd in State Competition in Pueblo on October 30th. Per the article in the EP News, "....the experience began with a snowstorm and a power outage. The band adapted to an altered competition format, ultimately clinching a well-deserved 3rd place finish. Congratulations to the EPHS Marching Band for their remarkable achievement and to Melinda and Cory Workman's efforts in coordinating the new trailer project."
Scott Applegate announced that the boys cross country did well at State: Austin took 8th in State. Chris took 59th place which was still very worthy. The girl's cross country team also went to State and receded at 14th out of 20. They took 11th place. Freshman Applegate took 30 seconds off her time at regionals! Well done, EPHS Cross Country teams!
Sunny announced that there will be several Thanksgiving prize drawings next Tuesday right before Team Meetings but you must be present to win. This is in lieu of a November social.

National Philanthropy Day @ YMCA is this Thursday, Nov 9th. It's a free dinner awards event and there about 12 of us attending. We do have a couple reservation openings so if you want to attend, please let Jean know. Our Club is nominated for the Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year Award. Katie Speer Philanthropist of the Year
This award is intended to recognize an individual or group who has made a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities. Employees of institutions that do philanthropic work are not eligible for this award for work performed in the course of their regular job duties.
Business Philanthropist of the Year
The Business Philanthropist of the Year award is intended to recognize a business that has had a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities.
Enduring Service Award
The Enduring Service award is intended to recognize an individual or group who has made an extraordinary long-term impact on the Estes Valley community through philanthropic activities. Employees of institutions that do philanthropic work are not eligible for this award for work performed in the course of their regular job duties.
Youth Philanthropist of the Year
The Youth Philanthropist of the Year award is intended to recognize an individual or group (18 years old or younger) who has made a significant impact on the Estes Valley community in the previous year through philanthropic activities.
Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year
The Shavlik Nonprofit of the Year award is intended to recognize a nonprofit organization that is in service to the Estes Valley that has demonstrated exceptional dedication to its mission and those whom they serve.
Speaker: Michael Allen spoke on Mental Health. He is from Summit Stone Health Partners which has served Larimer County since 1957. This is the same organization where our District Governor Elect, Karen Morgan works. Today's presentation is hoping to erase the stigma and raise awareness on Mental Health.
Michael gave Larimer County statistics for Adults and Youth on mental health - he talked about several areas of mental health. All are up but suicide rates have been trending down, despite suicide attempts going up. His slides can be found here.

Kendra Wallis - Kendra took over as Director of the 2023 Arts & Crafts Show. After 2 months, the Town of Estes finally sent the last invoice for the show. The team is happy to report a total net profit for the 2023 show as $41, 360!! This is a record for this Show! Congratulations to Kendra and the entire Arts & Crafts team.
